Renting when in an IVA
My husband and I started IVAs at the beginning of March. Since then he has got a new job and we are in the process of moving house. We have discussed with our IP as we currently own but this has been cleared.
We will be renting partly due to this speeding up the process but also because there is no way we could get a mortgage at a competitive rate (if at all) at the moment.
I know that credit checks will get done and we will fail In terms of the salary needed we would be fine but our credit history is not.
My husband's parents are happy to act as guarantors for us, but I have also seen that paying rent for 6 months in advance is another possibility. Does this mean that you pay 6 months rent in a lump sum and continue to pay the monthly rent each month (so you are always 6 months in advance) or do you pay the lump sum and then not need to pay again for 6 months?

I had an IVA and rented 2 flats without a problem. Just tick the box which asks if you've had any CCJ's so that you are up front about the fact you have an IVA. I started my 6 year IVA in 2003 and last rented in 2008 but I doubt things have changed that much since then.0

As long as you are upfront about it, you should be fine. At the worst I would expect them to ask for a guarantor.0
