Buying a house - utilities?
Options
Hi,
We are hoping to move into our new (new to us, 14yrs old) house in a couple of weeks. How can I find the cheapest suppliers - all the comparison sites need details entered of bills etc. We obviously have no idea what our bills will be to enter in these sites. We are moving from a very old flat with no gas and just storage heaters to a 2 bed terrace with gas central heating so we really have no idea what the bills would be. We currently pay 75 pounds (sorry american keyboard no pound sign) a month to powergen for elec.
Are there any particular companies that are cheaper than others. In a years time I will be able to check comparison sites and move supplier if necessary.

[/COLHere is a link to a calculator and information from a USwitch survey. I hope it may help you
http://www.simplyswitch.com/energy-consumption.html
Whatever supplier(s) the property is now connected to, making a decision now with its uncertainties about companies revising their tariffs in the near future, is not necessarily the best thing to do- see http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/....html?t=234243
on this forum. The advice is to wait. Another thing to look out for is a special charge for gas if the property is not Transco connected. I do not think the sites like USwitch include this element.
This is my opinion only but TBH you need to be patient until the present round of increases is out of the way, and, in fact, until you have a year’s consumption figures- at minimum a winter and a summer quarter- to hand. You could ask the person you are buying from what energy they use and that may give you something to work on- provided you think their life style is similar to yours.0
