Job Credit Vetting: How Clever Are They?

Have been offered a job in IT with American bank in London.
Its subject to a satisfactory credit check, the agency said they are just looking for CCJ's.
They want 6 years addresses, I know after 6 years things drop off your credit record....thus their request.
I have been living at my current address for 3 years, no credit at all, no problems, totally clean, on the VR, nice.
My previous address though has several defaults though no CCJ's, the two addresses are not connected, I know a little about how Experian/Equifax/Callcredit work. The defaults will make my job offer null and void, end of story.
My current home is a barn conversion on a farm, long time conversion, was living there before the council even knew it was an actual home being occupied.
My idea is to say I have been living here 6 years, the vetting agency (Krug) will see I'm registered here on the VR and there is no bad credit, no credit at all actually. But I will not be registered here for 6 years.
Is that going to cause problems?....will Krug simply having my name and DOB be enough to see where else I have lived in the UK?...my surname is Smith so this may confuse.
Don't get me wrong I'm not running away from my debts, they are being paid, but its just the knowledge that I have already been told being honest and opening up to my previous defaults will result in a retraction of offer, it is not open to negotiation.
ANyone been through anything similar?

As you would only be working in IT I don't think it's fair to say that if they find out about the defaults they will withdraw the job offer. Unless you've been given information from them that suggests otherwise?
However, If they find out you've lied to them you will have the offer withdrawn and potentially be loaded onto the Cifas Staff Fraud Database.
I wouldn't recommend lying but be honest about the defaults. Showing that you've taken responsibility for them and are paying them off will, of course, be viewed more favourably than lying about the situation.0 -
Sorry many jobs in IT will now kick you out or refuse to employ even if you have only one default. RBS are are one of the worst for this.
I have already been told as per my original post that admitting to any defaults will result in the offer being withdrawn, so in a sense I have nothing to loose.
I did live at my barn conversion while it was being built, so have actually been there over 3 years, but was fliting between the two addresses.
My question really is just that submitting my name and DOB can the vetting agency trace all my debt even if they don't have my address?0 -
If they have said they are just looking for CCJs thats all they will be looking for. Simple.Proud of who, and what, I am. :female::male::cool:0

News to me. I had a number of defaults registered against me when I worked with RBS - that said, I was honest and kept them in the loop about what was happening.Proud of who, and what, I am. :female::male::cool:0 -
They will need to be able to verify your address for the full six years, so if you were not on the ER you would need to provide other means of confirming your address for that period.Gone ... or have I?0

Hmmmm wonder what they will accept to 'prove' this?....the usual bank statement, phone bill kind of thing?...
It's a shame nobody here has gone through this.0 -
I have. Twice.
Differenct companies have different procedures though. I seem to recall that with my current employer I had to bring a utility bill & driving license to the interview.Proud of who, and what, I am. :female::male::cool:0 -

I have, but as catflea says, every company is different.
A friend is going through this for a financial services company at the mo, and for the period where she was not on the ER the employer has requested proof of address from the DWP or HMRC.I have. Twice.

That sounds more like checks towards your right to work in the UK.Gone ... or have I?0 -

Nope, those came after the job offer. This was in order to validate my ID for the purpose of credit checking
(My lot are only interested in CCJs at time of employment - following this you are required to declare any derogatory credit entries and explain how they are being made good but only BR would be considered bad enough to terminate employment - however CCJ would be suffient to have you moved to a non financial environment)Proud of who, and what, I am. :female::male::cool:0 -
I can't help much with what they're actually going to check but... I was a secretary in a London investment bank (US company) for over 10 years so I have a fair experience of that kind of environment. We had a temp secretary in our department who had been there for a few months and was doing a good job, the company offered her a permanent post which she took, a few weeks later however she was dismissed because HR found out she had been "creative" with some qualifications on her CV (and by dismissed I mean escorted out of the building by security there and then). My point is, seriously think about it because it may affect your job prospects long term if they find out.0
