Not sure if all of this is true. My understanding is that you cannot ask for costs if the claim is under 5000 apart from adding the court fee to your claim.

Neither do I think you can charge "whatever you like" as interest. You can charge statutory interest at 8.5% I believe.

Your right - to be blunt most of what David is at best pointless and at worst just plain wrong

What value are we talking here?

  • Hi OP,

I have just posted a similar thread. I have a small business doing Hair Extensions and this has happened to me. I have submitted a MCO but am not hopeful of recovering the money. People like this have almost put me out of business.

I have changed my T&Cs following this and a couple of other clients messing me about. I would advise your friend to do the same.
I now insist on 50% payment up front (I do take cheques at this stage- if the cheque doesn't clear I don't buy the hair) then the remaining 50% at the fitting appt- cash only. I make it clear at the consultation that the deposit is non refundable if they cancel within 7 days of the fitting appt or they don't show up. If they want to change the fitting date with less than 24hrs notice then a £10 charge is added to the total cost. I get them to read and sign these T&Cs at the consultation appt.
Like me your friend probably worries that being strict about money will put off potential clients but also like me she will go out of business if she doesn't put tight financial controls in place.

    Hope this helps x
