I've always banked with Nationwide, I used to have a Smart account when I was younger and the interest rates were a fantastic. I've since moved onto a Flexaccount and the online banking facility is great, shows you whatever dates you want! The esavings rate is higher than the flexaccount so I transfer money alot between the two. I lost my card and they sent me a new one very quickly, same goes for my pin number. Recently applied for a credit card and they sorted it all out for me in double quick time!
My friend had her card stolen abroad and it cost alot of money to ring home to cancel the card. She wrote to them and they refunded all her phone call costs.
I love Nationwide, I have banked with alot of the high street retailers but Nationwide is by far the best. They have a very high level of customer service and I have nothing but praise for Nationwide and all their employees! Well done!
A very happy customer!

I second that. Very cheap agreed overdrafts, free cash withdrawals abroad, free to get copies of statements and that type of thing.
The e savings is also a good add-on to the current account as you can transfer instantly as you said so encourages you to save whilst still being readily available in case of emergency.

Sorry I have to disagree. I have had a couple of accounts with them for a long time, going back to when it was the Anglia Building Society. I have always found the staff aloof and unhelpful. I have moved address twice in the last 6 months once into rented when I sold my house and then again when I purchased another. On both occassions I am convinced the staff in my local branch made the proceedure of updating my address as difficult as possible. Or maybe its because they couldn't be bothered. I have written to their head office complaining and they haven't even had the courtesy to reply. The only reason I keep any money with them is in case they demutualise. Incidentally the Halifax carried out the address change proceedure both times in about 3 minutes.0

Totally agree we have had an account with Nationwide for many years, well more than 30, no doubt it can vary from branch to branch, but my local besides the sea side could be a lot better, they are constantly asking when paying in cheques etc, do you know you can pay these in out side at the hole in the wall.
I would and have always wanted personnel service, not wonder if it’s lost when posted outside, about to try out The Abbey, see if they are better.!!!!!!There are More Questions Than Answers!!!!!!
:search: But I Just Don't Have Any Answers :idea:0 -
I think the Nationwide credit card is the best.
Just saved a packet in Spain. Used it in Italy earlier in the year and the US last year. Just so much easier than the hassle of cash/ travellers cheques.0 -
As for personal banking why not try First Direct. Brilliant.0

I've worked in loads of branches of Nationwide doing IT for them as a sub contractor and can say that they're just as friendly and nice to deal with behind the scenes - which isn't always the case with some companies.0

I have twice used them for contents insurance claims (they offered by far the most competitive quote to go with my mortgage) and both times a cheque has arrived promptly with no forms to fill in, just a phone call. They also gave me a mortgage when no one else would when I bought my first home a few years ago.
I have never ever been in a branch though! Only ever spoken to them on the phone.0
