I know what you mean, as soon as its put through the door its put straight back out, rarely to get collected because they dont come back. I guess many get fed up of being told they make a fortune when the reality is some what different

Some sellers I hear have been known to pinch other reps catalogues too as often they go on each others areas

Poundland and Home Bargains and the like sell the rubbish they often sell at much cheaper prices

I did kleeneze for several years. It takes time to build. As said previoulsy there's no teritories, so you can go out with your books, only to find some other distributor already there. It took me 18months to build up a customer base. But you do have to pay upfront, and there's a credit check as well. You have to pay for books, it's not cheap, because you do loose books, either by people throwing them away, other distributors taking them which they shouldn't do, but it happens, dogs/children ruin them, weather as well, cos if they get wet you can't dry them out as they go crinckly. Although the cats change , it just tends to be the front cover. You have to pay for internet ordering as well. Plus be careful who you sign up with, some 'teams' are very pushy, others tend to not bother with you. If you do decide to do kleeneze, take a book out with you so you remember where you've dropped your books, also you can record who doesn't require anymore books. Good luck in what you decide ;)

That's interesting! I was thinking I'd end up having to buy new sets books every few weeks, twice a year (apart from top ups) doesn't sound as bad, although I'd prefer not to pay at all lol.

You have to take account of the fact that you don't get all the books back, or if you do they are in an unusable condition.

When I tried it, some people would "You wanted the book back? Oh sorry, I threw it in the bin" or "The kids cut it up/drew all over it" or "Sorry, can't find it" etc. etc.

Many would just throw it down the garden path when it rained, or leave it out in such a condition that you could not use it again, just so you get the message not to deliver any more.

Then comes the day when you stray into another agents area and they go round taking your books. It's not so bad if you go round the day his customers leave his books out, because then you can swipe his books. But usually you put a load of books out in his area and one of his customers lets him know they have received a book from another agent. So he goes around collecting your books the day before you intended to do it.

Don't go into it thinking your books will last 6 months, because they won't. Every time you put a batch out you will collect less back.

Let's not forget the catalogues that end up with cat pee on them too. Another consideration is the time it takes to put the catalogues together. It use to take me 2 hours to put them together the first time. Then when you collect them in you have to wipe down the bags if they're dirty.. organise the catalogues inside.

When you get to a customer base it's easier, but it really does take a while to establish one and getting there you have to go through all the crap that was stated earlier.

I will say this if you do decide to do it, go to the meetings. They do help to motivate you.

My biggest problem with it was all the time it took. I don't just mean setting up the catalogues and putting them out and collecting them. But if you team build there's meetings. It seemed like there were meetings all the time and we were made to feel guilty if we didn't go. Then we were constantly on the phone or driving to see leads.

I don't miss it at all.

Many catalogues, as well as shops, web sites, market stalls etc. have great products. When we want to buy them we go to those places. We don't like them being pushed through our doors when we don't want them.

I'm sure double glazing sales people sell great products, but if I want double glazing I will ring them, I don't want them ringing me when I don't need double glazing.

The same goes for new mobile phones, insurance, conservatories and the rest!
