OPTIMUM CALLS-Anyone have a similar experience?

Sometime in early March I received a telephone call from a representative of Optimum Calls who informed me that their telephone charges were lower than British Telecom, it was stated to me by the representative that should I decide to switch providers to Optimum Calls right there and then, I would infact be entering into a "verbal agreement"
My response was that I was not happy entering into an agreement on the telephone and that I would only decide after reading any contract and / or terms and conditions.
The representative assured me that I had nothing to worry about as I would have ten days to decide from the date of the written details which would be sent out immediately to which I agreed, the representative then proceeded to ask for my bank details, to which I refused.
Seven days later, and before the so called "cooling off period" and after receiving approximately six calls from Optimum requesting bank details, I decided that I was been pressured, I informed an Optimum representative that I did not wish to go ahead and that I had decided to remain with British Telecom, the representative in question had called me to ask, yet again for my bank details.
A couple of days after this point I received a letter from British Telecom informing me that I would cease been a BT customer on the 27th March, naturally I contacted BT immediately to explain what had happened and that I did not wish to change providers.
On the 27th March Optimum Calls took over the telephone line, I contacted BT who informed me that I would now have to apply as a new customer, in order to do this I had to involve the person whom the BT telephone account was originally in.
On the 8th of April I received an invoice from Optimum for £464.13 ( breach of contract ), and on the same day I sent an e-mail to Optimum challenging the contract and breach of contract to which I got no reply.
Last week Optimum Calls cut the telephone line.
I have sent in a written complaint and will pursue this matter further.I received a call from Optimum Calls despite being on the TPS Regster.

I would be interested in hearing from people who might have had a similar experience with Optimum Calls. If we get together, perhaps we could get Optimum to feature on Watchdog.

    Sadly you're not alone.

    But according to their website:

"We always ensure that Optimum Calls operates by the strict codes of practice stipulated by Ofcom, the regulator for UK communications industry. We always ensure that our customers receive the highest quality of service and performance possible."

Doesn't sound like it to me if your experience is anything to go by.

What a disgusting company Optimum Calls are.
