Does anyone know what charges there are for switching from a prepayment meter to direct debit?
We're currently with Scottish Power and would consider staying with them if they don't charge (much
) but I can't find any information on their website.

The first hurdle is to see if they will allow you to have a credit meter - they will check your credit record.
Some companies charge about £50 to fit a meter, others for free; you will have to enquire with them about their policy.
The advantage of a credit meter with a direct debit is that you will have access to some much cheaper tariffs.0 -
We moved into a property with prepayment meters which we had never had before 15 months ago also with another provider, we had been with Scottish Power at our previous property so rang them and they agreed to change the meters for free if we transfered to them as we had been with them for over 8 years with a good payment record.
It does seem to be at their discretion give them a ring and ask and be prepared to negotiate, maybe threaten to move to another provider.0 -
They could ask for a security deposit as well0
