Honda Motorcycles Warning

Just a quick note for anyone wanting to purchase a new Honda motorcycle. I bought a new bike last week & on the last day when I came to pick it up was told I would have to pay over £800 for 2 years worth of servicing or the warranty on the bike would be void. I just confirmed this with their head office. This was a shock as I'd already paid them over £4000 for the bike itself.
I had previously asked twice while filling out the paperwork for the servicing to be explained to me & the salesman told me he'd 'sort me out' with a fixed cost but cleverly kept moving off topic. Having paid for the bike & gone through all the documentation I was finally told at a point where I couldn't reconsider. If the warranty is void then anything mechanically wrong with the bike will not be covered by Honda. It's a real Catch-22 situation! I was also told the servicing had to be carried out by a registered Honda garage, this is NOT true. The servicing can be carried out at any garage as long as Honda parts are used.
I hope this is helpful to anyone looking to buy a Honda bike this Summer. At least you'll be better informed than I was & can assess the cost accurately.

Absolute crap. They can't get you to pay for their servicing or invalidate the warrenty. A quick phone call to Honda will back that up. Just a saleman/woman trying to con you.
Never had this prob when bought my 5 last new cars from Honda Car dealers.0 -
sounds like rubbish to me. I'm pretty sure EU rules say you can have the vehicle serviced anywhere you like (provided they are suitably qualified), and it won't affect the warranty.0
-
sounds like the sales man conned you0

Actually, I contacted Honda's head office because I thought I had been conned & they backed it up. The warranty is void if you don't complete the recommended servicing. You can get the servicing done anywhere as long as Honda parts are used.0

Your two posts totally contradict each other.
One says you HAD to take out the £800 plan, the other says you didnt have to.0 -

Exactly. The salesman conned you. You can have the bike serviced anywhere, as long as Honda parts are used, and the warranty remains in place. There is no obligation for a Honda garage to service it, or for you to pay £800 for the privilege.0 -

I think you should read both posts again? I repeated what I first said in the second post about not using a registered Honda dealership.
The point is the bike has to be serviced 4 times in 2 years, that's every 6 months for the warranty to be valid, the cost of which amounts to about £800. As I mentioned, Honda themselves have backed this up.
Unless you think their head office is just backing up their sales guy & the serciving wouldn't cost that amount? In which case.....I'm feeling pretty annoyed right now!0 -

so in short to keep your warranty, the bike has to be serviced as per the schedule
the same with every new bike/car sold in the UK
so are you now complaining about the service schedule as nothing else relates specifically to Honda
servicing should be assessed as a cost on any new vehicle, same as insurance,MPG etc0 -

The dealer sold you something you didnt need. All head office has confirmed is that if you dont get the bike serviced to their timescales and get done whats needing done using genuine Honda parts, the warranty is void.
YES thats the cost if you get a Honda dealer to do the work for you, but you can go to anywhere thats able to stamp your service book and get it done.0 -
Typical con from a bike salesman!!! I remember buy my first motorbike a few years ago, they tried the heavey handed "sign here and now" approach, I went elsewhere because of it. When I traded that bike in we agreed a price before hand and when the day came to pick up new bike they wanted to drop the trade in value by a few hundred quid, I just told them the deal was off and started to walk out, they soon came running - the last thing a bike dealer wants is a bike that they have registered in your name sat unsold!!! they then have to basically sell it as 2nd hand with zero miles on it.
You should have played them at their own game and walked, they work on the principle that you really want the bike and will happily spend more to ride off on your shiny new machine!!!!0
