Best and cheapest way to travel from UK to Thailand to Australia and Back to UK?

This is my first ever time on Moneysavingexpect so i would greatly appreciate some feedback please!
Im looking to travel from the UK to Thailand (Koh Samui) to Australia (Melbourne) or vice versa in October with a few of the lads after a long tour in afghanistan.
Any help on which is the best route etc would make my day. I was questioning getting a return from Koh samui and boking australia in between or vice versa. Alternatively just getting a flight to Thailand, australia then back to UK?
PLEASE HELP IM STUCK! Many many thanks, Chris:j

Thai Airways to Bangkok then on to Koa Samui - pick up plane again in Bangkok onto Melbourne.
Southall Travel sorted out a similar journey recently for us.

There is either best or cheapest. Which do you want?

Cheapest is possibly Air Asia to KL. From there you can take firefly to Samui and back, then Air Asia to Melbourne.

Take a look at https://www.roundtheworldflights.com they do flights to Oz where you get a stopover in SE asia or middle east each way. So you could stop off in Bangkok one way and somewhere else on the way back (maybe hong kong, singapore or dubai?)

I believe BA/Quantas and Emirates do these trips and you can book direct with them.

Cheapest bet is to get a normal flight to australia via asia and have a stopover. Almost any ticket (except some cheap/very restricted ones) will let you do that - BA, Qantas, Singapore, Thai, Cathay Pacific, etc. See if any have deals that give you a cheap/free flight within Asia (not that likely but possible). Otherwise, it is pretty cheap to get from whatever city (obviously Bangkok is most convenient) to Koh Samui, if that is what your heart is set on. If you just want a beach holiday, see what airline is the cheapest - like someone mentioned, air asia can be very cheap, and they fly through KL so you could consider Malaysia, or just head to Thailand from there.
