Building insurance/deposits

Hi do I need building insurance to complete the purchase of my house. My mortgage says its a requirement to have it in place, but I have asked my solicitor twice if she needs a copy of my insurance certificate (so there are no issues when we complete next week) and she says she doesnt need it!

Also the person buying my house has paid his deposit by cheque yesterday but we are meant to exchange Monday, wouldnt his solicitor wait for the cheque to clear before passing it up the chain?

It's not a condition of the sale, rather it's a condition of the mortgage so you may be better contacting your mortgage provider and asking them whether they need a copy. I bought my buildings insurance through my mortgage provider as to our surprise it was the cheapest we could find. The solicitor didn't need confirmation, just the mortgage and as we bought it through them we didn't need to do anything else.
