 Morning all.

Lovely to hear you sounding so positive jo.

Weather fairly OK here, not brilliant but dry and warmish and gale-force winds have gone.

Got some rellies arriving (just for coffee and maybe a light lunch) in a mo but otherise lovely quiet weekend planned.

Just in case Budgie comes on line while away, have a great time on the riviera!

http://www.drinkingandyou.com/site/uk/health/allergy.htm

"Basically, a food allergy is where a normally harmless substance is perceived as a threat by the body’s immunological defences. In susceptible individuals, even light alcohol consumption can cause an allergic reaction. Allergic reactions usually manifest themselves as migraine headaches, itchiness, rashes, bowel colic, diarrhoea, asthma, swollen facial features and watery swollen eyes."

I wonder if this is why my mouth is swollen? And the funny thing is, over the past month or so, a few mornings I have woken up with what I put down to hayfever cos I had swollen watery itchy eyes, but only for an hour or so when I got up, then it was fine. Never had hayfever before....

That's why I picked that map ;)

Learning some very interesting stuff this morning:

Beer Intolerance
The first report was in 1980 by Von Ketel, who described 2 patients with acute reactions after drinking beer. The basic ingredients in beer causing allergies include:
Malted Barley – made by soaking and germinating the malt grains (sometimes other cereal (wheat) could be added). Results of skin p.r.i.c.k test and oral challenge to barley confirm an IgE-mediated allergy to Barley. The symptoms ranged from tingling sensation in the face, swelling of the lip or tongue, chest tightness, coughing, fainting and generalised hives.

ETA: wondered what a skin !!!!! test was till I realised MSE had filtered out the p.r.i.c.k word :rotfl:

Bingo!!

Contact Dermititis

This would explain my mouth symptoms and the fact that the eczema is worse on my right hand, particularly my fingers than on my left as I am right handed and so drink with my right hand.

This may also apply to you Sparkles?

Without a patch test I don't know what I am allergic to, but I guess it's not the alcohol but I may be developing an allergy to hops, wheat or barley?

I've just read on a number of websites that it is not an immediate allergy, it's something that builds up over time.
