The payday loan merry-go-round is a nightmare. Ours started with about £300 and just snowballed. If you are considering BR then hang out a bit on the bankruptcy board for info. I wish we had done it long ago but I kept thinking of it as a shameful thing with visions of debtors prisons like you see in Charles Dickens movies. The reality is that it is there to help people in trouble. There was no finger wagging judge at the court- in fact we just filled out a form and this was given to the judge to check and stamp , whilst we waited in the waiting room. The OR interview was OK, she was friendly in a professional way and never judgemental.

    Evening all!

Hopalong here! A happier hopalong....the hospital took the cast off and put an air-cast on (like a big moon boot!). Looks cack but so much better than having cast and crutches!! AND I CAN DRIVE FROM NEXT WEEK!!! So its back to work with me Monday...only for a few days though as have thu and fri booked off anyway.

Know my first thought?? That I could celebrate with a glass of wine! What a bizarre reaction considering foot still hurtin a lot and need to get used to this new cast. Guess I'm just odd.

Your not odd Miss P, Glad you have a more comfy (???) cast on now and will be able to drive.:D

Just dont try to overdo things, take one day at a time and you will be jogging along with the best of them.

Sim...just do the DRO....make the decision & you can start afresh.....my dad has written books on psychology, etc & one of his mantras was 'don't think-act! Do it now'!!! As scottishskintgirl says-you're complicating things & making yourself too stressed...you do not have the money to pay your debts off-END OF. So do the DRO very soon!

Off out myself now to get some fresh air & water my chillis!

    Love the philosophy.

I am adapting this as we speak!

    Sim,

I cannot advise on your financial predicament. Good luck with all that.

If it is the drink that got you into this mess, then staying away from that first drink has to be your number one priority.

When times are tough for me, I need to be honest with myself and ask myself what have I done today to protect me against taking that first drink.
If the answer is 'nothing', then I am not taking responsibility, and am vulnerable. If I drink, all that self-loathing and despair is on me in a flash. It means I dig myself a little deeper, and crawling out the hole is harder.

The only person that made me drink was myself. No-one else pours it down my throat. Wife, kids, boss, creditors, etc are not responsible for my drinking. I take the decision to have the first drink

    Hiya Graeme,

    You talk so much sense!

    Thank You for this.

    Enjoy your evening.

    Kind Regards,

    Sim.

Sim,At the start of this year, my wife and I had £5600 worth of pay day loans and cheque loans accumalated over two years. We had been paying a staggering £1100 every month for the last 18 months just to revolve these! In May we took out another £500 from a cheque loan shop- out of sheer desperation- not for anything fancy but to try and scrape enough money together to pay these leeches for yet another month. .. and then I found this forum which has been a godsend. We went bankrupt early April before we even paid one penny back to the cheque shop so the £500 bounced. BUT it was the best thing we ever did

    Hi Kevin,

Great to hear you've come out of all that grief.

Those PayDay loan companies, should be banned.

I wonder if Martin Lewis could put some pressure on them?! :T

The OR did not frown on us for this- was understanding and I can assure you that will not be accused of fraud ect. Hope this helps

Brilliant news, that the OR was OK with you.

Thanks for helping put my mind at rest too.
