Put a towel under the ubend and unscrew it to release the water, don't use the sink till repaired.I presume you mean the bend where the waste water runs out,if not don't unscrew it.

pots and buckets under leaks are ok as long as you remember to empty them regular.
they can fill up surprising quickly!

You shouldn't need to turn the water off because it is only when you run the tap does the u-bend come in to action.

Just put a bucket or pan under said sink until the cavalry arrive.

It is more than likely a perished washer at the plug but may be a leaking tap and running down to the u-bend so appears to be coming from there. Keep an eye on it to see how quickly it fills, if it only fills when using the sink then it is the u-bend, if the bucket keeps on filling regardless of you using the sink it is more than likely the tap.

    Hope this helps

Is the tap leaking from the spout or the connecting pipe underneath?

Hi the tap is dripping and the connecting pipe underneath is leaking, i can't get the pipe off and not even sure i should as i can't get in touch with my landlord to ask him. I've got to go to work soon too and worried about leaving it all day

does any of your pipework have a shut off valve that leads to the leaking tap,it will either have a little knob to turn or a screwdriver slot which you can turn and isolate the water,if so turn off,if not turn the mains water off till help arrives.
