Egg credit card

Few days ago I applied for an Egg Credit Card in order to take advantage of their 0% offer, and was immediately approved with a comment that my card would arrive in 7-10 days.

This morning I checked my credit report as I often do and they have made an unrecorded enquiry. Any idea why they would do this when they have already carried out a full search on the initial application?

    Hi BLT

This is standard practice by credit card companies and is usually for identity confirmation, fraud prevention and anti-money laundering.

Virtually all the CC applications I have made have involved a full credit search followed by an unrecorded search, usually a couple of days (but sometimes longer) after the initial credit search.

Damn, I am going to have to launder my drug money elsewhere :D

But seriously, thank you. I was slightly concerned, it wouldn't be the end of my world if I didn't get the card, but would cost me around 10 pounds in interest per month I am paying on my current card at 6.9%

I believe the initial full search is an automatic 'pass-fail' one.

The second one will likely be an underwriter making a manual search (perhaps totally randomly, or maybe underwriters manually assess all applications before giving them the final nod?), and they realise it wouldn't be fair to penalise the customer by having it recorded as a full search.
