i'm going into my 2nd year of uni (19 years old) and will apply for funding shortly.
Now, when I applied last time, I had my uni fees paid for the year (tuition fees?) and I received monthly payments (£55 each month - living with parents etc). Is the £55 a month called a student loan? On the letter I see, it states 'LOAN FOR LIVING COSTS: ...' and that is what works out as £55(ish) a month. Is this the thing I have to start paying back when i start receiving £20k or something from work after uni?
Finally, if my circumstances have not changed - is this the maximum i am entitled to? A few mates of mine get more each month - and by quite a bit. Is this mostly down to taking in how much parents earn and if you live at home?
appreciate help0 -

You obviously get less if you live at home, and can claim for travel expenses. If you do not apply for means-testing then you will get the basic loan, which sounds like what you did. Means-testing can enable you to get the bursary (if eligible), more loan, and be eligible to claim for travel expenses.0
