Sports Insurance - mountain biking

Hi guys
Is there such a thing as insurance if I hurt myself to an extent I cant work or worse whilst mountain biking ?
I have a wife, kids and mortgage....and a passion for mountain biking
If so is they a good one which doesn't cost a fortune each month
Whilst I am not an extreme downhiller or stuff like that it can present its dangers

Hi there

It sounds like you need some kind of Permanent Health Insurance policy.

I take it you are self employed and if so, you need a financial advisor to sit down with you and your accountant to go through everything - if you are just looking at this aspect, there may be other things you've missed, such as cover for your wife and kids, an income if you are killed falling off your bike, how you will cope if you get cancer and many more.

If you are employed, speak to your employer and see if they already provide PHI cover and what the exclusions are. If they don't have a policy, suggest to them that it's a cheap benefit they can provide to their employees (the greater the number of employees, the lower the cost per person).

I've had a policy with Sportscover Direct in the past. The benefits are not huge but it's a good starting point if you dont want to go down the route of income protection insurance or critical illness cover etc.
