I had the same difficulty, but I found out you can actually set up another Yahoo ID, or to be more precise, an alias. Follow the instructions here

Why would you need to log in to see another email? Don't either of you have software such as Outlook Express that allows you to set up different accounts so the software just downloads from each account in turn? Far easier, and takes seconds extra. Unless your email is clearly not identifiable as belonging to you, it would be possible for people on Freecycle who reply to you (even if you have another Yahoo ID or alias) to find out who you are (if they could be bothered).
It really is worth joining Freecycle. If you're concerned about privacy, haven't you got any alternative email addresses offered by your ISP? Usually they'll give you the option of having at least 5 email addresses. I can't imagine how anyone manages with just one, particularly with all the spammers out there - I have at least 8 on the go all the time.
However, each to their own. If you do want to stick with a single email address, then you should be able to set up a rule in Outlook (or whatever software you're using) to move everything with 'specific words in the subject' (the specific words being the name of the Freecycle group) to a folder that you've created (eg 'Freecycle).0
