when i try to join it directs me to yahoo....well what if you havent got a yahoo email, do you have to set one up solely just to use this site???

No - you need to create a Yahoo log in name, but you can use your regular e-mail when you register. Here I go again on my own....0

I'm having terrible trouble with Freecycle as well. I have 800 odd emails a day in my junk box, yet I can't seem to just pop in and look at whats on offer, do a search or browse?????

The one Yahoo ID can be used on groups, e-mail, webspace and other services. If you only want to use it for groups, put your regular e-mail address in when you register and all the freecycle messages will go there.
You do get many messages which can swamp your e-mail box. I changed my to a hardly used g-mail address rather than my works one, as I was finding it hard to find work related messages among all the freecycle ones! Here I go again on my own....0 -

You can also set a Yahoo group membership to 'No messages - I will read them on the website' or 'Administrator messages only', and just read it like a message board.0 -
That's my problem.............I can't seem to view the website to actually be able to 'See' the offers.
Really fed up with myself for not being able to sort it out. I so want to browse and give stuff away.

When I joined freecycle I created a new Yahoo email address just for freecycle emails. That way they do not get mixed up with regular emails and I just access them via yahoo online, read the ones that interest me and delete the others. You can also set up your account to not receive any emails but just view online by the following method after you have joined freecycle, but I think you have to have a yahoo email address to enable you to join
.
TIPS TO ORGANIZE ALL OF THE NEW E-MAILS YOU ARE GETTING:
a) CREATE A SEPARATE E-MAIL FOLDER & AUTOMATICALLY HAVE FREECYCLE STUFF
GO TO IT. Create a separate folder in your Outlook Express & have
Freecycle stuff sent to it automatically with a new rule under tools/message
rules/mail/
b) SET TO "DAILY DIGEST" OR "SPECIAL NOTICES" (which means you'll just
browse the messages online). Please realize that you can set your
personal preferences on the main page (under "Edit My Membership" in the top right corner).0 -

I do this by going to http://groups.yahoo.com/ and using the Sign In link, and signing in with the Yahoo username that I used to join the group with.
Once you've done that a 'My Groups' box appears, which should have in it the name of the freecycle group you joined.
Click that and you're taken to the group home page, where you can use the Messages link to see the posts.0 -
The problem that i have is that my yahoo id is my actual name and as its a local website i dont feel comfortable with that for some reason.
I dont want to set up another e-mail addy as i only ever check this account and iknow id miss something if i set up another account as i wouldnt be bothered to log in twice.0 -
bubbles this is exactly my problem but it was easier to say i havent got yahoo lol!
i dont want people knowing my name (this is an old email, i didnt know better at the time) and its a hassle having to set up another account and only have it for one site-really annoying i think im just going to leave it.Fr.
