Hospital stay

Please can anyone tell me who out of DLA, ESA, carers allowence, Council tax and rent benefit who do we have to notify when one of the claiments goes into hospital for a couple of weeks.

    There should be the numbers on the award letters. You are aware that you can keep these benefits for a certain amount of time when the claimant goes into hospital?

  • couple of weeks shouldnt be a problem,most would be 4 weeks +,although not sure about CA

  • It is vital that you inform all benefit offices of your change in circumstances.

    With DLA if you are in hospital after 4 weeks within a 12 month period your DLA will stop.

    However for ESA you will be allowed to carry out getting paid for 52 weeks, however I think that rule has changed and you will be able to get it indefinitely.

    The simple thing is let the benefits offices know and they will advise you accordingly.
