Peppers & chillis question
Hi everyone
I posted this on the veg growing newbies thread but didn't get any answers so I'm hoping someone with experience of peppers & chillis could help me
I'm sure I read somewhere, or maybe saw it on the tv, that when you pot up tomatoes you should plant them deep and bury the seed leaves to make more roots. My question is: should I do the same for my pepper and chilli seedlings?
Also, I have one of those little Wilko greenhouses, now the night times are warming up can they go in there??
Any advice welcomed - thanks.

I've done this many times with no problems.0

I never do this with chillis and peppers; as they do not root from the stem so can rot off if too much is under the soil.
Tomatoes are different - they do root from the stem and thus being under the soil just causes them to make more roots.0 -

I thought so too but as I said I've done this for many years with no ill effects. In fact, I did so about a week ago and the seedlings are thriving, having had their entire stem buried up to the first leaves. It may be because the plants are young.0 -
I hope you don't mind me posting a question on your thread.
I wanted to know how everyone's chilli's and peppers are going. I was a little late planting my seeds this year and planted 3 chilli seeds and 3 pepper seeds on 8th April. I planted the seeds in old toilet rolls and put them with my other seeds in my glass porch to my house. But when the weather got really warm I moved them into my greenhouse. All my other seeds have germinated. I have planted a few more chilli and pepper seeds but still nothing.
Can anyone suggest anything0 -

were they warm all the time? If they were warm in the day and cold at night that will not help. Chillies like a constant warmth (20C) and even then will take up to 3 weeks to germinate. I had some prairie fire that took 4 weeks, almost chucked out the compost0 -

I would have thought the temp would have dropped at night. I think I will plant some more and keep them on the kitchen windowsill0
