ADDING RAM TO Ei SYSTEM PC

I believe I might need to install extra RAM to my Ei System PC. Is this something a non techie:( can do or would it be wiser to leave it to an expert? Many thanks for any advice.

Having carried this scan out I'd suggest you price up alternative brands - Crucial is not the cheapest and not necessarily the best. It is unlikely that your Ei machine was actually equipped with Crucial RAM in the first place so don't feel obliged to use it. Other reasonable quality brands you could consider are; Kingston, OCZ, PNY, A-Data. On a medium range machine all with perform well. I would only invest in top quality if I was using the machine for heavy graphics/video.
My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016). :(

For those seeking more detailed advice and guidance regarding small claims cases arising from private parking issues I recommend that you visit the Private Parking forum on PePiPoo.com

Thanks for your advice and I'll do some investigating tomorrow. Forgive my ignorance but does it require a lot of technical knowledge to install ? I feel so dim but I'm willing to learn.

The link provided in Browntoa's post above gives you a video guide on how to install extra RAM.

That was so simple to follow. Was too tired to check it out last night but have just been watching it and even a non techie should be able to manage that. Many thanks once again.

Have completed Crucial scan and this is the result:

memory upgrades
According to our scan, your system already has the maximum amount of memory installed.

dropArrow_expand.gifYour MSI (Micro Star) MS-6714 (845GVM-L) Specifications

Currently installed memory:

256MB

4GB
DDR PC3200

Each memory slot can hold DDR PC2700,DDR PC3200 with a maximum of 1GB per slot.*

*Not to exceed manufacturer supported memory.
• Maximum Memory Capacity: 2048MB
• Currently Installed Memory: 4.25GB
• Available Memory Slots: 0
• Total Memory Slots: 2
• Dual Channel Support: No
• CPU Manufacturer: GenuineIntel
• CPU Family: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz Model 2, Stepping 9
• CPU Speed: 2800 MHz
Q: Will my system recognize the maximum upgrade?

A: Possibly How much memory your Windows OS will recognize depends on which version of Windows you are running. 32-bit versions of Windows will see (and utilize) only 3GB or 3.5GB. To utilize more memory, install a 64-bit version of your OS. More information about OS memory maximums can be found at http://www.crucial.com/kb/answer.aspx?qid=4251.

Can anyone explain what that means in simple terms. Does that mean I already have ample memory? that's yet again for any advice you can offer.

if its slow then lets check to see that its not infected

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.
• Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
• Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
• When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
• When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
• Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
• Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
• Then click Finish.
• MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
• On the Scanner tab:
• Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
• Then click on the Scan button.
• If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
• The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
• When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
• Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
• Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
• Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
• When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
• The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
• Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you may be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. Regardless if prompted to restart the computer or not, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware. MBAM may make changes to your registry as part of its disinfection routine. If you're using other security programs that detect registry changes, they may alert you after scanning with MBAM. Please permit the program to allow the changes.
