Toshiba TV develops fault after less than 2 years - extended warranty issue

Hi,
I purchased a Toshiba TV from Empire Direct in around July of 2008. The TV cost approx £1300 and came with a 3yr warranty provided by Empire Direct.
Recently the TV has developed a small fault (a thin black vertical line down the screen) and I have since discovered that Empire Direct have ceased trading.
To make matters work the warranties were underwritten by Empire Direct so the warranty no longer exists...
I paid for the TV on my credit card so I was wondering if I could claim for the repair costs/replacement TV through the credit card company as the warranty was part of the cost I paid for the TV? Or if I could claim back through Toshiba as even though it is outside of the manufacturers warranty the TV should not be developing faults of this kind in such a short space of time.
Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, you can hold your credit card company liable under section 75 of the consumer credit act 1974 for any breach of contract - so they may be liable to perform the warranty T&Cs.0
