Electrician question - re wall sockets

Does anyone know how much it costs to put in a new wall socket onto a wall that currently doesn't have one?
The wall is near our electric meter if that helps?
Sorry to be so non-specific but happy to share any info needed.
Basically I need an electric socket near my phone socket as BT want to charge me nigh on £200 to move the phone socket near an electric one :eek:

Shouldn't be any more than £100.
Look through yellow pages and ring a local electrician (not a nationwide one). They will sort you out.0 -
As Owain says, it'll be much cheaper/easier to get the BT socket moved - an electrician can do this for you

You can not move the master socket (officially); you can add an extension phone socket near an existing socket.
The rough cost of a new socket may be around the £40-£50 mark assuming;
There is decent consumer unit with RCD protection;
The earthing and bonding are fime
and
there is less than one hours electrical labour involvedbaldly going on...0 -
I should of given the reason why I need it moving I suppose.
At the moment the router is in the hallway on the floor with cables running from the kitchen with power and from the phone socket. Not the most safety concious method.......
Ideally I want to move the phone socket into the lounge but the cost is unbelieveable, the other option being having an electric socket added into the hallway near the phone point.
Re the extension, I was under the impression that you couldn't use a modem on an extension and it had to be put straight into the adsl filter on the main socket?It's nice to be nutty but's more important to be nice0 -
I've had old fashioned modems and ADSL modems on the end of extensions, even on an extension on a extension without any problems. Total length after the main socket was ~15m.
For an ADSL modem to work you'll need the extension to be taken before the filter or from the modem/data output of the filter0 -
my bt wirless router is on an extension...the bt socket is by the door the puter and router in the kitchen/breakfast room..a £10 telephone extension run up the door frame along the pacture rail over two door frames through the kitchen door and then ran down the door frame works fine....
my phone is also in by the puter but they are wilress so they also need the power unitTHE SHABBY SHABBY FOUNDER0
