BT reducing prices

Has anyone yet read this from the Register?

Does anyone else know about free calls from 15 August in return for signing an 18 month contract? Even if this is correct, I am wondering if it would mean you agreeing to use BT for all your calls ie forsake 1899 etc during the peak daytime hours.

Read the thread that bbb_uk points to as the idea that BT is reducing prices may be somewhat misleading as some will rise.

"From 15 August, BT will offer free evening and weekend calls to anyone who signs an 18 month contract"

Big deal? Primus Saver 2 have been offering this facility for some time without any contract.;)

The "big deal" as I see it, is that as a BT customer, you will not be scutinized the same way when it comes to making sure you have made a couple of calls for free Caller Display.

Also, Primus does not do up to the minute call listing, (and they have been known to charge for 0800 calls;) )

In the fast changing world of Telecoms 18 months is a long time to be tied to a supplier is it not.

I know of at least one reliable supplier who should be doing Free Evening and Weekend Calls via CPS by beginning of Sept ,and has no plans to follow BT and introduce a 3p connection.Nor do they require you to sign an 18 month contract.

So it might be worth while waiting a while to see how other suppliers react to BT,s offers.

It's worth bearing in mind too that the thread which originally raised the issue of BT's pricing change announcement is entitled, "BT to amend residential prices - the ups and downs" for a very good reason!
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
