car allowance
Options
Hi hubby has just been offered a new job that comes with a car allowance. My question is does he need to purchase a new flash car with this or can we use our current vehicle for this purpose. He is under the impression that they will want him to have a flash new car so wont be able to use our current one. This means that there is no benefit to the new job as extra cash is going to be used up on a silly car.

Your husband will need to talk the company. There is no point in having a misunderstanding even before he starts working for them. Might make it a very short period of employment.0

My company has a list of requirements when paying car allowance. Nothing too draconian..must be 4 door, under 5 years old, under 120,000 miles. We cover UK and Europe so need to be reliable etc
Some colleagues have bought Passats, Mondeos, Zafiras, Golfs, one even has a Mercedes(but he's a bit older and wanted a nice car to finish with). I bought a Focus, so variety. A couple of them are using the car they had when they started. I couldn't as I have always had company cars before.
You need to speak to the company and get their view.
You could be fortunate, unless of course your existing car is more suited to scrappage than company use:rotfl:
Oh and don't forget that whatever car you use to get business use on your insurance0
