norfolk broads - hiring a boat

can anyone give me any advise on hiring a boat on the norfolk broads?

Who tends to give the best prices, is there a comparisson site?

Thanks everyone!!

We moved to Norfolk five years ago and usually take at least a weekend on the Broads each year. First thing I'd say is that it's a lovely thing to do. Very relaxing, life slows down to a walking pace for a short while. Second thing I'd say is that it's not cheap. Most of the boatyards are affiliated through Hoseasons and prices are pretty fixed...but you can pay a lot for boats with four poster beds and jacuzzis (I kid you not!) or you can be more basic and the price will reflect that.
Also we've tended to go from Richardson's boatyard in Stalham, a bit away from ther main action in Wroxham and therefore clamer and more managable. They do sometimes have special deals on. It's worth asking. I thinka google for Richarsdon's + Stalham ( or "New Horizon" which seems to be a small group as well) will get you contact details. Might even be worth setting your budget and asking what they can do for that.
Just because somebody is certain doesn't mean they are right!

New Horizon is owned by Richardsons of Stalham, as are all of the boatyards which appear in the New Horizon brochure!

They used to have a 'cheap' boatyard just downstream of Norwich on the Yare, but that seems to have vanished from the brochure. I had a couple of boats from their and they were definitely their oldest and worst condition boats!!

Hoseasons, Blakes and New Horizon will do a Late Deal if you phone up, but they can be fully booked-out if we have good weather like this year!

Not a 'cheap' holiday in any circumstances however.

Hi just been up to Norfolk and we always go out of Stalham Staithe on a dayboat. However, we went to Hickling this time and went to Whispering Reeds boatyard(part of Hoseasons I think). We had a super little boat for £51 for four hours and we got onto Hickling Broad and up to Potter Heigham in our time. Really good.
The boat hire firms seem to be pretty competitive - it just depends where you want to visit really. If you pick up general leaflets of what's on from tourist places, there are a couple of companies doing money off deals on day hire too.
    Have a super time.
  • We went with New Horizon: http://www.newhorizonhols.com/ and did a short break which was very reasonable. Think it was around £70pp for the weekend.

It's a fun trip - Make sure you get one that has the roof slide open!
