San Francisco Holiday inspirations please

Hey guys,

We are going to San Francisco for 2 weeks in June (visiting family for the third time in the past 12 months). Wish I can make the most of the trip but now stuck for ideas!

I'm hoping to escape from the city for 3-4 days and budget's not a big concern.

Our criteria is:
  • Not a beach holiday
  • Not LV/LA
  • Not Yosemite or Lake Tahoe
  • No crazy driving involved (some is fine)
I would be really appreciated if anyone could kindly throw some inspirations around.

Cheers

  • You could have a look t gotobus.com - they do brilliant guided tours in and around the area
We did some with them last year and can't rate them highly enough

We hired a car last year when we went to SF, and basically got lost and found a place called Point Reyes - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Point_Reyes

If you're into walking or wildlife you might like it there.

& spend a bit of time in Calistoga as well - nice little quirky spot, in the Napa Valley.

Thanks guys for all your suggestions.

I'm now thinking Arizona - Scottsdale, Tucson and Prescott. Anyone's been before?

Drive down Pacific Coast Highway past Big Sur ! Places to stop and see i recommend are Hearst Castle at San Simeon and Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park i would say unbeatable drive and divert when u see anything that takes your fancy.
Stay at the most romantic place ever - Deetjen's half way (book early and ask for the Castro Cabin - set by itself under the Redwoods - the food is also to die for) then continue to Santa Barbara and take in the wineries in that area.
Not really beach although it is coastal - any room in your bags for me?!;)

We stayed in Cambria and Monterey when we were there last year - loved Cambria and just didn't get enough time in Monterey
If at first you don't succeed - destroy all evidence that you tried.

We stayed in Scottsdale/Phoenix but it didn't really do much for us, but we all enjoyed Tucson enormously. If you are prepared to splurge out some extra cash and stay somewhere a little bit different and special, I can't recommend the Jeremiah Inn Bed and Breakfast highly enough. Their own website. Not cheap but worth EVERY single $$

Hire car-head north over GG bridge into wine country...visit all those little towns along the main wine route
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
