If you are on EDF online v5 - please check the correct unit prices are being applied to your account...
I switched to EDF online v5 in August 2009 and I recently began looking at my usage in more detail to see how it compared with the previous years and generally ensure there were no anomalies. I wanted to give it 6 months so I could get some meaningful averages.
My investigation was further prompted when I read on MSE that some people that had switched to EDF online v5 and found that they were put on a more expensive tariff.
Suffice to say that I too had been somehow placed on a standard tariff. I have all of the paperwork indicating that I signed up to online v5.
I called EDF this morning and asked them which tariff I was on, the lady said that I'm on the standard tariff.
I indicated that I signed up to the online v5 in August 2009.
She went away and said that it wasn't possible for me to sign up to the online v5 tariff because it was only released this year and that the standard tariff was correct.
I indicated that she was referring to the EDF online saver v5 tariff and not the online v5 tariff.
She went away again, this time for almost 5 minutes and then came back and confirmed that I was on the wrong tariff. She said that they will recalculate my current balance based on the new tariff and backdate it to when I switched.
I'm not here to judge whether it was a simple mistake or by design. Suffice to say that it may be worth double checking your tariffs...

Thanks for that. I also switched to Online Tariff Version 5 on the 29th July 2009. According to the EDF website and my bill I am on Online v5 Direct Debit.
Does anyone know what the tarrif rates are? Looking at my bill I got charged (North Yorks):
Gas:
1 Mar to 26th Mar: first 184 kwh at 4.929p then next 1745 at 2.994p
26 Mar to 16 Apr: first 154 kwh at 4.29p then next 1454 at 2.833p
Elec:
1 Mar to 16th April: first 133 at 12.290p then next 343 at 7.630
Also, I am looking at changing to Ovo. Does anyone know when the July/August 2009 Online Tariff Version 5 expires and if there is a penalty for switching early? The internet seems to have conflicting info:
http://www.energylinx.co.uk/online_tariff_version_5.htm - No charge
http://www.edfenergyonline.co.uk/sainsburysenergy/Online_Saver_v5.html - charge0 -
Strange, same thing happened to me when I signed up for online s@ver 5. I picked up on it before the bill though when I checked what I had spent so far and it bore no relation to my figures! They sorted it out immediately but no explanation as to why it had happened.0
