What type of JSA?

If you fail to qualify for ESA after being on IB what kind of JSA will you be placed on, income based or contribution based.? I ask because if you are placed on CB JSA you will only get that for 6 months then have to rely on other income coming into the house.

It depends - is savings / income of partner low enough? have you pay enough contributions over the last 2 tax years?

I assume that if you have been claiming IB for a few years > 5 then fail to qualify for ESA when they reassess you then you would have been getting NI credits for the years you have spent on IB.

if you have not paid enough conts in the last 2 tax years as an employee then you wont get jsa cont based credits do not count for jsa cont based

So NI credits gained when you're on IB don't count towards getting CB JSA they only count towards your state pension. So, if you're thrown off IB onto JSA because you fail the ESA test then you will only be able to claim IB JSA but if you have a working partner on a "decent" wage then presumably you'll get nothing in terms of IB JSA.

    Is this correct?

Yeah. If you partner works over 24 hours and you haven't enough NI< you can't get anything.

    Blimey

As IB was a non-means tested benefit and the new ESA medical test has been made even more difficult to pass I foresee loads of people getting thrown off IB and end up getting no benefit at all and having to live off the money their partners bring in.

So that's how the government intend to "save" money on the benefits bill.

    Thanks for the warning!!
