Software to fix corrupted jpegs

I'm looking for recommendations for software. (Free if possible, but effectiveness is more important).
I recently formatted my hard drive and reinstalled windows. Unfortunately I then discovered that a folder containing most of our honeymoon photos hadn't backed up properly. (Yes I know - I'm an idiot for not checking properly that they were all there. My wife's already told me that).
I've now run a file recovery program (diskdoctor's digital media recovery software) and recovered thousands upon thousands of jpegs. Some are the missing photos, a huge chunk are just random images, but another huge chunk are corrupt and unreadable. I suspect a few of these may be some more of the pictures I'm after. Can anyone recommend something to try and recover these?

In theory, if the software you used can't identify them as jpg's (if they are, they could be anything), then it probably impossible, but you could try an alternative recovery software.

In this case, don't do any changes on your hard disk again. Then you try another file recovery software.
