AND CPP/DEBS/SATAN
I have recently received a Debenhams credit card and I phoned 0800 915 2205
to activate my card.I was interviewed by a female advisor based in
Chesterfield.I have listed her actions.
1.Asked me for the card number, and security details which I gave to her
2.Said that she had activated the card .
3.She did not make any reference to card security, and made no reference to
the PIN number.
4.I presumed therefore that the card was ready for use both instore and
online.
5.The operative told me she worked for CPP
6.She tried to sell me an insurance policy which protected against identity
fraud. She then listed ways in which such fraud occurs and how it is on the
increase.I said I thought this was a call to release a card and not a
marketing activity.
7.She explained this would cost £84 and pressed me to make a purchase;she
said "We can simply add it to your to your card this morning.
8.I asked for some literature to be emailed to myself and she said nothing
could be sent out either by email or otherwise.I expressed my misgivings
about this pracitice and she said it was quite normal. She did not tell me
that the same policy was available online direct with CPP for £69.99.
9.When I questioned the advisor further the phone went dead and I believe
the person terminated the call without my consent.
10.I phoned later and spoke to Damian who told me he had an autistic son (I
use this only to identify Damian). He also told me he would activate the card
but again no mention was made of the PIN number. He chose to tell me about
the card protection plan ,I said I was not interested and the conversation
shifted to ID fraud etc.I challenged the price of £84 and he said it could
be bought for £70 direct with CPP and that CPP paid £14 to Debenhams. He also
explained he could do a deal for £62 by using a spare policy(available to
couples)I asked to speak to a manager and met Harry who said he would get
back to me.
11.I tried to use the card again in several websites but no joy.

• gnvqsos - you appear to have made an error and posted your complaints on an Internet forum - have you emailed the questions about which is the best ISA to your banks as well?
You've never seen me, but I've been here all along - watching and learning...
• And the straw that's broken the camels back - my new cheque book arrived after 6 weeks of trying to obtain this.
I was so excited until I opened the new book to pay a small company I deal with. Low and behold, printed on the front and back of the cheque book "NOT TO BE USED WITH A CHEQUE GUARANTEE CARD"............This can't be happening.
On the phone again to be told that it's correct as they are phasing out cheque books in 2018!!!
When I asked if I could have a cheque book that I could use I was told that they would send me a new debit card....when I asked why, I was told that they are phasing out cheque guarantee cards.
I think you can use the cheques they've sent you, but you can't guarantee them - you don't have to use the guarantee card, but it's down to the recipient whether they want to accept them.

As guarantee cards are being phased out, they don't really have a choice - it's that or cash. TBH, I've hardly ever been asked for the cheque guarantee number.

• Will try and keep this short!!!
I recently lost my bag. I phoned santander to report credit and debit card as stolen as soon as i noticed and wasnt asked a single question of where/when it was taken/last transaction/balance of account as other companies did. Nothing had been removed from other cards and so i assumed whoever had it hadnt got at my money, and now couldnt as cards were all stopped.
10 days later i hadnt recieved a new credit card and i phoned to enquire where one was...was told one hadnt been issued, couldnt explain why, i asked if previous one had been cancelled AND WAS TOLD NO!!! DESPITE IT BEING REPORTED STOLEN 10 DAYS earlier. guy on the phone tells me he will issue a new one and was there anything else he could do. i asked out of curiosity for my balance and was told i was £20 odd pound over the limit on a card tht was previously empty! he was very taken aback by this info and told me it would be forwarded to fraud team. so 5 DAYS later i recieve a call from fraud to ask some ridiculous questions such as do i still have the card(???!!) and when i lost it (surely these should have been asked earlier) and am told i may possibly be liable for money spent in the time before i noticed purse missing and me reporting it!?
he has now gone away to "continue his investigation" and im still waiting for a credit card- AND a debit card as that hasnt arrived yet( more than 2 weeks after asking for a new one) and getting more annoyed by the minute. Is it worth lodging a formal complaint and going down the compensation route with it??...needless to say i shall be moving my ac!!!!s very soon!!!!
