working tax credit question?

I read this board trying to find answers to my question, i am still not clear.
my situation:

I started work in sept 2009 after being unemployed for about a year,
applied for working tax credit, about 2 months ago, after discovering i was entitled to it.

I worked out my income for last tax year, with benefits & income from new job was about £8500

I went through all detail on phone and was told it would be about £42 per week, now i have been assessed after filling out form etc...and i now recieve just over £100 a month?
Does this sound right?
cant really work out how it works?

  • You should have received an award notice by now. DOuble check that all the details on the notice are correct and if still concerned that you should be receiving more then give the main Tax Credit helpline a call on 0845 300 3900 and ask them to check. Alternatively there is an entitlement calculator on the HMRC website.
