how does housing benefit work regarding overtime

hi i moved in with the father of my 2 children back in november.. i always thought my patner earnt too much to claim housing benefit so we didnt bother claiming. but as the months have gone on were finding it a struggle. my patner works his basic 40 hour a week @ £280 before t/i but his job involves call outs. some weeks he could get none other weeks call outs could put his wages up to £499 before t/i.... things r ok when its like this. but when he gets his wage on 230 after t/i.. we struggle bad its a choice of feeding the children or pay bills. (children always comes 1st).
so his overtime call outs are not gaurenteed. weve been advised to put in 4 it but how do they work it out coz of the overtime he gets.
thanx in advance x

If income changes monthly then you will have to send payslips in monthly to housing benefit so they can work out your entitlement monthly. You could find the weeks where he earns £500 you will not qualify for it and have to pay the full rent yourself.
