Cannot open browsers on laptop

I suddenly cannot open either Firefox or Explorer on my laptop which is running XP Prof, though I can open Windows Messenger and other windows. Can anyone help please? I have just run a Norton virus check but nothing came up.

Hi, I cant open Internet Explorer either for some reason since yesterday. Its never happened before. Can anyone suggest what i can do about it Thanks0 -
