I've got Monty Don't book (was on sale last year) and one of the RHS guides (stupendous bargain at £4.99 last year).
As a second year gardener, what I found most helpful were books that not only tell you what to do but pictures!!! Lots of these fashionable gardeners on TV have lots of arty shots but don't actually show a proper picture of where you should be cutting to prune something, etc etc.
And another one for the vine

i have just bought the veggie growers bible it is pocket sized and has lots of useful info on what to plant in which months/ pests and diseases/ when to sow and when to plant, only recieved mine this morning but it looks good so far. i got it from here
