Problems with Barclaycard!

in Credit cards
I have a Barclaycard where I don't owe anything on at the moment. (Credit limit £400 - OK, I'm a pensioner!) I wrote and said I wanted a better interest rate than 24.9%!!! or I wouldn't use the card anymore. They wrote me a letter saying they'd give me 11.9% plus I could make a balance free transfer. Whoopee, I thought! This will help me get rid of some debt.
I rang, only to be told that I couldn't get the new rate or make the transfer till Aug. 1st. I rang back on Aug 1st only to be told that I couldn't have either of the 2 things which were in the letter. I wasn't very pleased. I wrote to complain.
Today I got a letter telling me 'thanks for setting up payment on my card by Direct Debit and were these bank details correct? '
Shame I never asked for this (I've got nothing to pay off, remember?) and besides they weren't my details!!! I've written again to complain. I can only assume that these were the bank details of someone with my name and initials. What a chance for identity theft??? Good thing I'm honest. However, I think I'm going to cut up my card and send it back. If Barclaycard are in this kind of mess in their organisation then do I really want to deal with them? No, I don't think so.
One question remains? I wonder if I have a case against them for refusing to give me something they put in writing that I could have.
Needless to say, I have asked for all my back statements so I can get back my charges.

Dear All
this is a reply to my own post.
I am pleased to say that my letters of complaint got a good reply.
I was telephoned by the Customer Services Manager. He apologised for the problems. I have now got my 11.9% rate plus the balance transfer I requested. He is sending my back statements so I can claim back my over-charges. He also credited my account with £25 for the hassle/stress. He was pleasant to deal with and had listened to the tapes of my conversations on the original calls. (I confess I reckoned they binned those things!)
Barclays are looking favourably at customers' requests for better rates. (I guess that's because the CC companies are fighting for custom at the moment. Too many canny people paying off their debts!)
Altogether a good result from my point of view. It will all help me get rid of my debt.0 -

Reminds me of the time I applied to open an Abbey National account. I duly filled in the forms and sent off original utility bills and bank statements as ID. They then wrote back returning someone elses bills! Talk about incompetance when they put such importance on these documents to prove ID!Don't lie, thieve, cheat or steal. The Government do not like the competition.

I'm sorry, I don't apologise. That's just the way I am. Homer (Simpson)0 -
Dear All, final reply to my own post. The manageer at Barclaycard pulled out my old statements and checked out that I was owed £56 on charges being the difference between what I paid and a £12 charge. Yesterday he refunded me £56! I'm very pleased! Total 'won' - £25 for hassle plus 11.9% interest rate, £300 balance transfer and now £56 refund of charges.
I'm now working on refunds from Natwest!
Keep plugging away, everyone! You'll get there in the end.0
