Problems getting photocopies certified

Wondering if anyone else has the same issue.
I was trying to open a new bank account (Offshore) and they need photocopies of my ID documents certified. Fair enough - I went along to the local postoffice - but they said that as it is a small post office, there is no postmaster there, and hence they cannot certify.
I then went to Lloyds (I had gone to make a payment) and they said they would only do that if I had a current account.
HSBC (where I do have a current account) flat blank refused - said they do not certify photocopies anymore.
The police station did the same.
My GP does - but charges £20 for writing the following text on a sheet of paper "True copy of original"! (not really an MSE way!).
I was wondering if any of you have had a similar issue? Or is there any one else who can sign a photocopied document?
Thanks....

No reliance should be placed on the above.

The only place I can think of for certifying documents would be a Notary Public but I think it would be too expensive. Phone one and ask. I used to haveto go to one of these when I was working and needed documents certifying to send overseas.0 -
Could you not just send the original documents for them to do their own copying??0

IFAs, solicitors, accountants, bank managers, judges, doctors, teachers can all do it.
There is a liability on certifying documents. To expect someone to do it at no cost is unreasonable.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -

Agree. I've always sent the originals, recorded delivery.
Or ... you can often take the originals into a local branch of the bank you're opening the account with. I notice this is an offshore account, so there may not be a local branch, but worth trying.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac
