HI all,
My wife and I are going to redecorate our lounge this weekend, and we've started removing the dado rails in preparation. But the way the wall is looking underneath is slightly worrying. I took a picture:

I'm just wondering - is it normal to look like that, or has the dado rail taken off an extra layer that it shouldn't have?
If we strip the paper off, is it going to be OK to paint afterwards, or will we need to do something else to prepare the wall first? And if so, can anyone recommend a product or process?
All advice much appreciated!
Edit: Ooops! Gimme a minute, i'll resize the pic! (Aaah, that's better

Looks from the pic the top layer of skim plaster has come away and will require patch plastering0

Ok, youv'e pulled the dado off a little hastily and in doing this you have pulled the top coat ( 3mm skim of plaster) off the wall.
I'm assuming the rest of the dado rail is still on the remaining walls, if my assumption is correct when you take the rest of the dado off the remaining walls prise the dado off slowly/carefully about every 6-18 inches (find the fixings) and you won't pull the skim plaster off. The damage you have done will need repairing - i'm sure easy fill or polly filler will suffice for the size of the damage you have done.0 -
thanks guys,
So, is it going to be ok to carry on and strip the wallpaper, providing I do it all properly?
And then will it be ok to just paint straight over the top.
Plasterer, yuu're right I was a little hasty, but it's only a very small section. The pen is mightier than the sword, and considerably easier to write with.
