Car Judders in first Gear

I have a fiat Punto 1.2 2002.
When I start off from standing the car judders quiet bad.
If I apply excessive accelleration then its ok.
This only happens in first gear and only when the car is under a strain eg.hill start,going down hill but on the flat it doesnt happen.
I dont have any other problems in any other gear,it runs ok when moving,it starts first time and ticks over ok.
I would be very gratefull if anyone can enlighten me as to what could be wrong.

Oh the stories I can tell you about my (ex) Punto 2002. It's a faulty clutch/flywheel. I ended up having seven of the 'new and improved' clutches and flywheels to try and solve the problem. All work done under the warranty as the car was only a year old. It always came back within a few hundred miles. At this point, the car was only four years old and I got rid as it was clear that nothing was going to work.
It is a very common problem. Seek advice from your Fiat dealer, although it has been a long time since the car was in warranty. I will try to find some of my old threads on the net on this.

sounds like the clutch or fly wheel is the problem! does it not judder lightly or whine a tad when selecting second! if it kangaroo jumps in first maybe could be something to do with fuel and timing! a bit more detail in symptoms would help greatly, does it whine when changing into second gear does it pop out of gears at all when going over bumps etc? a little more info would be greatful

Mine didn't pop out of gear once, never juddered in second, just first (even on flat) but did whine. It was a very violent judder too.
