EON A rant!

in Energy
I had some workmen from EON turn up outside my house this morning to connect up a house that that has been built in a neighbour's garden. The trouble was that they wanted to route the cables underground from the electricity pole which is in the verge outside my house. Now I live in a village where everybody tends the verges outside their houses to the same standard that they tend their gardens. Indeed, pictures of the frontage of my house have been used to adorn various leaflets publicising the local area.
I started to worry when I overheard a very heated phone conversation between one of the workmen and (presumably) his supervisor. The phrase "But it looks like a lawn and it's covered in daffodils" was repeated no less than three times. Further eavesdropping revealed that the workman was asking for more time because he wanted to remove the turf manually by spade so that he could put it back as he found it.
When I returned from work this evening, it was obvious that the extra time had not been granted. The verge is a mess of mud, caterpillar tracks and crushed flowers. The whole job had obviously been completed using and excavator. To add insult to injury a trench had been dug, and backfilled, across my drive but the tarmac had not been reinstated.
Now I know that verges are just part of the road that haven't been tarmaced and I have no claim to it whatsoever, but I would have though that, as it was obviously cared for, EON might have used some sensitivity.
I've been a loyal customer of EON/Powergen for my gas and electricity for the last ten years. Needless to say, I'm switching to another provider as soon as I can. I'll use the money I save to buy grass seed!

Hi Gloomendoom
I'm really sorry the work carried out near your property yesterday was not completed to a satisfactory standard.
Work on overhead and underground cables is the responsibility of the distributor of electricity for the region. This is a separate business from the supply of energy to the property.
Nevertheless, there are Codes of Practice in place which need to be complied with.
Central Networks are the distribution arm of our organisation. Therefore, I would suggest you register a complaint with them.
They have an Operational Compliance team whose main role is to monitor and survey work carried out by our distribution business and contractors appointed by us.
They provide feedback through on-site auditing and quality control to investigate why the situation you encountered happened and with a view to preventing any such future problems.
Give us a call and we can quickly tell you who you need to contact. Alternatively, drop me an email to the address in my Profile and I will be happy to do this for you.
Again, I'm sorry the verge outside your house was left in a poor state. Give me a shout if you need any more info as will be happy to help.
