DELL - Debt collection letter 2 years after purchase.

Hi

I received a letter from Debt & Revenue Collection Services this morning for a demand notice on behalf of Dell.

To my horror I discovered this was my Laptop which was purchased from Dell in February 2008! I called this agency and they informed me that Dell had not put the payments through correctly from over two years ago but will put payment on hold for 14 days until I investigate this.

I thought I paid for this with my Credit Card at that time and I no longer have this credit card and account is closed.

Dell have never asked for this payment and I as far as I was concerned I'd paid it through my credit card and received a statement from Dell at that time advising of sale.

Is anyone in the same boat? I'm totally shocked by the poor customer service of Dell and why they did not just write to me directly instead of going straight to a debt company and why has it taken them this long to discover this?

Many Thanks
