Egg & PPI

Hi folks,
I'm new here so be gentle!
My wife has a card with Egg and a couple of years ago we found out that she had PPI on the card. She was a bit lax at checking the statements as they were internet only - anyway, she had not used the card in ages and she got a call saying that it had hit it's 10k limit! We were paying a set amount assuming that this was amove the minimum but when added to the ppi it turned out it wasn't. The net result was a huge bill when we thought it was going the other way. She emailed them to tell them to remove the PPI. We took money out of our house to clear the debt - The card has been used quite a bit of late and the balance is now at 8k and the PPI is still on there. Egg say they have no record of an email and unfortunately neither do we!
My wife has a long history of kidney problems and 3 years ago had a transplant. Surely Egg would have needed to know her medical history for their ppi?
What is the best course of action in terms of seeing if we have a case for getting this back? Have any others had any joy with Egg. I read on here that we can ask for a breakdown of the PPI over the last 6 years. Is that true and are they required to give it us.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Tony
