Help! £600 bill for a quarter

Options
I need help.

Moved into a flat back in august 2009.
And completely to forgot to check meters and to change with electricity supplier.
Recieved a bill in Oct 2009 and paid still in landlady's name. Did not realise as did through flatmate.
Another bill in January 2010. Paid.
And now recieved a bill saying they have done an actual meter reading and despite paying them £500 they are saying we owe them about £569.31
I think it is due to the meter readings being incorrect.
As looking at the information. Compared to previous usage this lates thas 4x times the amount of electricity used.
Im guessing due to own fault not advising of correct meter readings when we first moved in will have to pay.
Any advise at all?
Will be greatly appreciated

Did you read the meter when you moved in?
If so does 1st bill you paid start from that reading? If not then you are playing catchup.
Bascially you have paid £1069 for 8 months elec but you dont say anything about the flat, elec heat? standard or E7 tariff?

Because you have failed to change the bill into your name the supplier will not even talk to you about this matter, everything will have to be done via the landlady.

As stated above more information needed, but if you have an all electric flat then £1,070 for 8 months over a very cold winter is not excessive.

If there was an incorrect start meter reading in August 2009(and how will you ever know) that is between you, the landlady and previous tenant. It is nothing to do with the utility company.
