PPI Halifax Credit card

I was misold ppi insurance as i was a student and as a result i was plugned into a world of debt where the interest payments each month were £100, i came into a lump sum of money and paid off the debt.

i've wrote to complain and received a chq last week for all ppi and interest paid on this however, i want to claim all the interest payments (minimum payments) i made.

am i able to do this? when halifax made a decision they said i would not be in a financial disadvantage due to the misell, however i lost over 2-3 years of minimum payments.

I would quite while I was ahead if I were you. If you go back to the company and state that you feel aggrieved because you had to make minimum payments on your credit card and you want them all back they may suspect that you aren't really a student.

I suspect it was an art degree??? :-)

Why do you feel you should not make minimum payments. If they have paid all the PPI plus interest what else should you claim form? Am confused

i was under the impression the ppi would cover me if i was made redundant or off ill. i was made redundant and eventually i could no longer make the payments, just before the news broke of the redundancy i made a very large purchase on my card. once i was made redundant, i wasnt really bothered as thought the PPI would cover it. i was declined when i made a claim as i was a student. For approx 3 years i was paying minimum payment so the balance wasnt going down.

before my redundancy i never missed a payment and was paying 500 per month (minimum payments were £25), i'm just feel that the misselling had a snowball effect on something which wasnt my fault.

I appreciate what you are saying about this. Ring the FOS and ask them about this.

  • If you don’t mind me asking, did Halifax’s refund include the full interest on the PPI?

I ask because I have just been made an offer by Halifax but while they offered to repay the PPI charges the interest that they have calculated is absolutely minimal & nowhere near as much my own calculations.

I'm probably not qualified to help in your own predicament re: reclaiming minimum payments as I haven't got to that stage myself yet, but I agree in principle that even a full refund of PPI plus interest doesn't take into account issues like missing payments on one card as a result of the higher minimum payment on another one caused by PPI. I'd be surprised if the FOS would be responsive to that sort of claim but worth enquiring about at least. Good luck!

Yes you are right they do not take into account the knock on effect of these things. Think we have to just put this down to life. Not fair I agree.

Cant argue with that, as long as I can get the PPI & the rightful amount of interest refunded I'll be more than happy with that.

Also Max, at the risk of hijacking 1234's thread (sorry mate :o) would you mind, if you get a chance, having a look at this thread of mine ( http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=2416969 ) & maybe offering any advice re: my last post/question on there? Bit stuck on what to do. No problem if you cant & sorry again 1234.
