You have to take into account that it costs a lot of money for garages to offer MOT's. (Cost of equipment, calibration, overheads, time etc). They have to get this money somehow so if the charge does not cover the true cost of the MOT there is a high probability that the car will be failed so that they can earn good money on repairs.
I would not go to a garage offering cheap MOT's unless it is personaly recommended by several people. Cheap MOT's can often be a false economy0 -
designed to generate business and hope cars fail so they can upsell the repairs
ask friends and family where they go0
