London Electricity = EDF, I think.

£90 for a semi, probably a 2 or 3 bedroomed semi, is perfectly acceptable usage for such a cold period of time. Might want to consider upgrading the boiler at some point in the future :)

use a comparison site like uswitch to put your details in and it will give you some ideas for what's the cheapest. Once you have been there a year you will know exactly how many kwhs of gas and electric you use so you can work it out more exactly. If you are with your regional electricity supplier for electric and BG for gas then you can probably save up to 20% by moving to the cheapest suppliers and paying by monthly direct debit!

I'm currently with British Gas, and my bills are horrendous. Much worse than yours. I am seriously thinking about switching, as they are very expensive imo.
  • If you want to stay with bg they have cheaper tariffs than standard
  • You might also want to look at your insulation - I'm in a 2-bed detached bungalow, also (currently ;)) on BG Standard with CH (underfloor), HW (combi) & cooking (includng kettle) all on gas. My ANNUAL spend is only £265, about 5200kWh/yr. Mind you, I only have heat on at night, when I'm home - obviously if you're home all day I'd expect more, but £180 for two months sounds heck of a lot to me.

Having done extra loft insulation this year I found my winter gas use came down 30-40% from last winter even though it was much colder here. For an outlay of less than £200, it should be fully paid back in 2 years, so well worth looking at.
