Hanging eyelet curtains from wooden pole?

I've been looking for curtains today and the only ones that I like are the eyelet type. I currently have a wooden curtain pole with rings that have hooks attached and my curtains hang from the hooks.
If I take the rings off the pole will I be able to hang eyelet curtains from this or will I need a metal curtain pole?

Yes you can, assuming the eyelets are big enough to fit the pole! Ours are like that in the sitting room and dining room. Here I go again on my own....0

Thanks Becles. All of the curtains that use hooks just looked so dowdy and they had really cheerful eyelet ones but I didn't want to have to buy and put up a new pole. That's made my day0
