Christmas Week - Sun Holiday suggestions

Looking to grab a week from Thu 28th Dec to Thu 4th January. Have done Paris & Prague for few days in previous years and fancy some sunshine for once rather than exploring/sightseeing.
The Canaries are obviously in pole position, but I don't want to be spending £2k (2 adults & 1 7yr old child), so am looking for suggestions. Happy to travel anywhere.
Also, I presume that leaving it until the week before may see us grab a deal - after all I'm really not fussy about where we go. If someone can surprise me with somewhere that is cheap, recommended and can be booked now for around £1k that would be perfect.
Also, if anyone has been to anywhere in the Canaries over Christmas that they would like to recommend that would be great also.
Thanks in advance

Packages will sting you for the new year's eve gala dinner with most hotels. The difference in cost between the south of spain and Canaries at this time of year can be enormous and the weather not that much better. I'd look at the sunniest part of Spain.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

We have booked up to go to Cala Millor in Majorca(i know its not going to be sunbathing weather but its gonna be a little better than the UK) over Christmas and by doing it DIY its only cost us £320pp for 11 nights all inclusive. That includes flights with BMI Baby, hotel through Freedom Direct and taxi transfers with Shuttle Direct. The same sort of package through a travel agent would of cost us roughly £750pp."Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."0

I wouldn't recommend leaving it until the last minute, flights would probably be fully booked. I went away last Christmas and had to pay for another 2 days as there were no flights back
DIY holiday will be cheaper if you can book your flight and hotel seperate, or have a look at apartments.0 -
Thanks for that0
