All bankruptcies are registered on the insolvency register online, and are placed in the London Gazette and local press at the OR's discretion. I've read of people on here who have put their name into google and it's come up on the front page with their bankruptcy details..Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

Hi Auldblerk.
My letter didn't specify any particular person to witness and countersign, nor more importantly did it exclude anyone. In fact it suggested family or a friend! They accept anyone who can be checked out at a later date if there's any problems. The important thing is that their name is clear and the address genuine.
As for people finding out, yes it IS public record, but as a previous poster states, only published in the Gazette and online register which draws it's info from The Registry Trust, the principle source for the credit agencies. You may find a notice however in the local press at the end of your BR when the OR publishes the dividend, if any.
An exception to this general rule is where you've been naughty with local creditors...traders or customers and the OR decides there is public interest in the wider public knowing.
For most of us, no-one need know unless you want to tell them.
I couldn't give a monkey's personally. It's other people who lie awake at night worrying about their debts...not me anymore! Nor you! The days of Marshalsea are long over.:j:rotfl::beer:0 -
I've heard that too Immoral Angel. I tried it on myself but nothing came up although I was definitely on the register. Next day service for me! Perhaps it comes up on google when someone else has done a search and this has left a trace.0

I've been assured by the OR that mine won't be in the local press; I made a point of asking ! I've tried googling my name and nothing has come up.0 -

Is there anyone here who lives nearby perhaps who could sign it for you?? Mr Porter perhaps?!
I know that you dont want to give out a precise location, but some of us do have a town listed and you may be nearish?0 -
What area are you auldblerk? maybe one of us is close enough to do it for you?0
-
Tis ok.. will contact the local CAB, it's near the Railway Station0

If you really have no one then take it to the OR's office.
As above the only people who know are the people who would be actively looking which in most peoples cases are only financial institutions0 -
If my husband and I are both going BR, can I witness his forms for the OR, and he witness mine?0
